My Bible
Something a bit more personal than usual. When choosing what book I wanted to photograph I had a very easy decision. Ephesians has been my favorite book in the bible since I was Jr. High and my favorite verses have always been Ephesians 2: 8-10. Which is:
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
I like the NLT translation the best! What made me laugh about showing you this book in my bible is that its like crazy marked up, which isn’t what the majority of my bible looks like. Basically what I’m trying to say is… I’m not trying to brag about how awesomely marked up my bible is! haha…
All that being said I wanted to address the issue of “bible reading…” First off it shouldn’t be what I just said, it shouldn’t be an issue. Reading your bible was one of those things growing up that I pretended to do, but really never did. I lost count of the amount of times my pastor, or mom would ask me what I had been reading and I would just say, “ohhh some Psalms, and Ephesians….” It took me a really long time to get to a place where I could be honest about it and say I don’t read my bible every day. When it went from the I have to mentality to the I want to mentality, things changed in me.
I don’t think reading your bible or praying should ever be a burden. I do believe that reading your bible and praying are very important to your relationship with God, but they don’t define it. I look at prayer and reading your bible as a benefit to the relationship. We should never feel shame and guilt about forgetting to pray or read our bibles. It’s like a mom you made a piece of art for. When you do it, she is going to love it, no matter how crappy it is. When you don’t do it, your mom is going to love you the same, no matter what. The benefit to prayer and reading your bible is growing that relationship. So if you are having problems with reading your bible everyday or praying every day, don’t think you are alone, but also know that it doesn’t define your relationship with Jesus, who loves you regardless!
